Guidance and Psychological Counseling Program


Trakya University Faculty of Education Department of Educational Sciences Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling Program offers undergraduate degree and regular education is applied. The Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling serves with 3 associate professors, 1 lecturer and 2 research assistants. The first PCG undergraduate program started its activities in 2014-2015 academic year and gave its first graduates in 2017-2018 academic year.

The aim of the department is to train psychological counselors who are sensitive to people, society and the changes and problems in the world, comprehend the new paradigms of their profession in the 21st century Information Age, adopt the humanist and existential philosophy of life, gain competence and ethical responsibility in their profession, use information and communication technologies effectively, and work in institutions such as education, health, social services, industry, etc. with a 4-year undergraduate program. For this purpose, psychological counselor candidates in the program take field courses, general culture and professional knowledge courses and elective courses to develop field knowledge, pedagogical knowledge and pedagogical field knowledge
.
In the PCG undergraduate program, the old and new programs are carried out together since the 2007 revision program was transformed into the new program by CoHE in 2018. While the old program consists of 180 course hours, 162 credits and 240 ECTS, including 146 theoretical and 34 practical courses, the new program consists of 160 course hours, 147 credits and 240 ECTS, including 134 theoretical and 26 practical courses. These courses are divided into groups as field education, professional knowledge and general culture courses. As of the 2018-2019 academic year, 1st graders are receiving education according to the new program. The emphasis in the program is on field education courses with 68 hours of theoretical and 12 hours of practice. Professional knowledge courses consist of 40 hours of theory and 12 hours of practice and general culture courses consist of 26 hours of theory and 2 hours of practice. Students are entitled to graduate by successfully completing 147 credits-240 ECTS by taking elective courses as well as compulsory courses in order to qualify for graduation.

Aims and Objectives of the Department of Counseling and Psychological Counseling

1.To provide an understanding of psychological counseling and guidance studies carried out in schools and various institutions to psychological counselor candidates who receive education in the field of counseling and guidance

2. To provide the psychological counselor candidate with the theoretical knowledge and skills related to basic counseling skills and to enable him/her to put these knowledge and skills into practice

3.To enable the counselor candidate to create therapeutic conditions in the counseling environment and to use therapeutic skills to create therapeutic conditions

4. To have knowledge about psychological counseling theories

5. To have knowledge about test and non-test techniques used in the field of counseling and guidance counseling and to be able to evaluate the application and results, to provide feedback

6. To ensure that the psychological counselor candidate selects and uses interventions using theory-based methods and techniques by adhering to basic principles in psychological counseling and guidance practices

7. To gain knowledge and skills related to preventive and intervention guidance services

8. To provide the psychological counselor candidate with the theory and practice competencies related to vocational guidance, to gain the ability to carry out career counseling services carried out in education and various institutions

9. To train individuals with scientific competence to provide psychological support in all areas where children and young people have adaptation and development problems

10. To gain the ability to provide guidance and psychological counseling services to children and young people as well as guidance and psychological counseling services for their families

11. To ensure the development of knowledge and skills by taking part in PCG activities carried out in education and various institutions

12. To gain the ability to prepare and execute annual plans within the scope of the program based on the Developmental Guidance Model in the execution of guidance and counseling services

13. To gain the ability to provide consultancy services related to counseling and counseling activities carried out in education and various institutions

14. To have knowledge about ethical and legal issues related to the profession

15. It is aimed to train individuals who have developed their professional competencies by being equipped with professional knowledge and skills, adopt scientific values in national and international arena, think analytically, have high self-confidence, have good communication skills and human relations.
